BLACK MAGIC

Beer of the day- Magic 8 Ball. A black IPA from Magic Rock, fusing speciality malts with a tropical punch bowl of new world hops to deliver a contradictory yet cultured concoction. A classically 'pale' aroma and quenchingly fruity palate belies a broodingly dark and deceptive appearance. Can a beer be both 'black and pale'? Time to consult the Magic 8 Ball...

SMOOTH OPERATOR

On tap now we have Milk Stout from award winning Danish Gypsy brewery Mikkeller. Sweet flavour with a toasty finish, an aroma of milk chocolate, cream, roasted malt and coffee. Very smooth with a soft carbonation. This is our pick for an after dinner sweet treat.

Happy Birthday Ritual Productions!

Ritual Productions would like to summon you to celebrate their 5th Anniversary on September 18th 2015, at the Black Heart!

"We could not have made it this far without all our fans and supporters across the globe: everyone who has bought a record, every media outlet and concert promoter who has helped spread the enthusiasm, and of course the artists who inspire us all!"

As a thank you, the party will be free to enter and will feature live sets from BONG, 11PARANOIAS and GHOLD - early arrival is advised! The Quietus' Toby Cook will be spinning discs throughout the evening as Oberon watches over the ceremony.

This line up is quite frankly ridiculous

THE TIME LORD TRAVELS ON

Respectfully pinched for Noisey:

Sad news in as Terry Jones lost his battle with cancer. The news of his passing wasn't splashed across newspaper pages or eulogized by many major media outlets, but it did hit one particular community with brutal force. As the vocalist and lyricist for venerated British doom band Pagan Altar, Terry's musical footprint is incalcuable. Heartfelt (and heartbreaking) goodbyes from his bandmates adorn the Pagan Altar Facebook page, while fan tributes continue to surface on social media, and Terry's family—including his son, Alan, with whom he started the band—are left to process their grief. His legacy of doom—the genre he helped to create—will reverberate through countless amps for many years to come.

In interviews, Terry came across as humble and kind; onstage, his flair for the dramatic and penchant for the occult made each performance shine. "I personally am extremely proud of everything we have ever done," Terry told the Metal Crypt zine in 2006. "There are very few songs written by Al and I that we haven't used in some way shape or form. I can still listen to early-recorded tracks and think "I really love that bit" or "That has come out exactly how I had envisaged it at the time and it still stands up"! It's usually a case that many artists in different fields secretly feel that their work is never quite finished and just needs a few more slight alterations. I have never felt that with ours, I wouldn't change anything so that has got to say something about how I feel about it."

We at the Black Heart we're huge fans of Terry and his band, he will be sorely missed.

PICTURED LIFE

The UKPA is an organising body and web resource set up to promote the UK gig poster scene, with a focus on limited edition, screenprinted works. The UK possesses a vast wealth of talent within the field of gig poster design that finds its roots in both the concert posters of Britain’s musical past as well its contemporary American counterparts. As the scene continues to grow this side of the pond, UKPA hopes to offer help and information about those working within it, how clients can go about commissioning work, as well as promoting and supporting exhibitions of these artists.  We aim to change these exhibits seasonally so keep an eye out for updates! If you wish to purchase any of the art work head to the link below!

OOZING WOUND REVEAL NEW VIDEO & ANNOUNCE EURO TOUR

Oozing Wound play the Black Heart Saturday April 4th, tickets available below:

Chicago’s riff hoarding power trio Oozing Wound have just announced that their first ever UK tour will kick off in Nottingham this March, before calling at Glasgow, Leeds, Bristol, London and Milton Keynes – and to celebrate, they’ve released a brand new video for their supremely heavy song ‘Hippie Speedball’, which you can watch right here…

Comprised of Zack Weil (guitar, vocals), Kevin Cribbin (bass), and Kyle Reynolds (drums), the band have steadily conquered the Chicago underground, one sweaty basement show at a time. Now, they’re finally ready to bring the party to this side of the pond, with a full European tour confirmed in support of their latest album for Thrill Jockey, ‘Earth Suck’, calling at nine different countries and including an appearance on Roadburn Festival’s hallowed turf.

It’s hard to slap a genre onto Oozing Wound’s brash, hyperactive sound – they’re often referred to as a thrash band, and though they surely have the speed, energy and youthful exuberance to back up that claim, they also have all manner of big fat Sabbathian grooves and histrionic, feedback drenched guitar freakouts that have more in common with sludge or noise rock than they do anything in the thrash canon. It’s like Kreator circa ’86 thrashed so hard they tore a hole in the space-time continuum and just about to managed to binge through the High On Fire discography before going completely insane.

Either way, just rest assured that these guys write the kind of big, obnoxious riffs that can’t fail to plaster a huge grin across your face. Or, in Weil’s words, “loud fucking guitars and screaming and shit. We don’t sing, and we don’t write big choruses. Anything like that gets checked by the wayside because, fuck it, it’s not us.”

But you didn’t come here for words, now, did you? You came here for riffs – and you’ll find a metric fucktonne of them in the video for ‘Hippie Speedball’
