Post Punk Podge and the Technohippies
Returning to the UK for the first time since last year's legendary Glastonbury gig, Post Punk Podge and the Technohippies touch down in London for another high octane show delivering their unique blend of Punk, Electronic, Krautrock, Techno, Irish Traditional Music and Hip Hop.
Post Punk Podge is a figment of punk and the post's collective imagination in the form of a singer/rapper/musician from Limerick, Ireland.
An accomplished violinist, Podge’s goal is to turn the brown envelope from a symbol of corruption, deception and greed into one of self-expression, defiance and laughter. Accompanied by his sidekicks, the Technohippies, they have been stirring things up in Ireland and the UK with their own sound.
October 2017 saw Podge collaborate on the Stark Raving EP with NaIve Ted, as well as release the debut Post Punk Podge and The Technohippies EP Kick Against The Pricks, a month later. 2018 saw even further collaborations with Jimmy Penguin on his Savages EP, as well as their most recent single ‘Home is Where the Heart Bleeds’, which raised money for the Novas homeless charity in Limerick.
These highly acclaimed releases have helped them build a firm following and become one of Ireland’s most exciting bands, due in no small part due to their live shows - a full-on high-energy assault on the senses. Armed with his violin, an array of effects pedals and a microphone, Podge stalks the stage with all the menace of Johnny Rotten, accompanied by Dr Asparagus Montague on backing vocals and guitar and DJ Jurassic Park 2 on laptop and controller.
A staple of the festival scene, they’ve left a trail of money, degrees and chaotic noise wherever they have played, including legendary gigs at Glastonbury, Body & Soul, Electric Picnic and Knockanstockan. Post Punk Podge & The Technohippies enjoy subverting genres and fusing comedic elements with a serious social conscience and message of defiance against injustices in the world. Lyrically Podge tackles issues such as depression and anxiety, as well as the current state of affairs in Ireland and the wider world, all intertwined with his trademark wit.
They are too fat for pigeonholes and revel in their unique freedom of expression through the medium of post punk and everything in between.
Rather than being a mere flash in the pan act, the band are most definitely in it for the long haul, and 2020 sees them destroy even more venues throughout Ireland and the UK, with world domination only around the corner.
Cruiser
Joining them on the night is fellow Limerick band Cruiser specialize in blending shoegaze with wham-bam punk rock at an ear- shattering volume. The band have gained a reputation as a live act full of sweaty sing-a-longs and high energy head bopping numbers. Their long awaited new single ‘No More Parties’ is out now and it is the band’s first release since their standout debut. The song takes on everything Cruiser have become known for, high energy, catchy hooks and capturing the modern mindset of Limerick City.
Cruiser have been building their name up in Limerick for the last 2 years by blending catchy tunes and thoughtful lyricism with pulverising musical dynamics. Playing with acts like Pillow Queens, Titus Andronicus, Just Mustard, Otherkin and many more all around Ireland. As founders of DIY LK the band have also brought countless acts to their home town of Limerick City over the past 2 years wile also putting on to festivals each year.
After a slew of singles, their HOT 4 U EP, the four-piece dropped their debut self-titled album in 2018 The LP is loaded with more belters such as lead singles 'Grownapart' and 'Spine' while also showcasing the bands slower, more experimental side on tracks such as 'Gram' and 'Things We Learnt'. The album was launched in Pharmacia, Limerick to a packed room of 120+ people.
Shergar
Opening up the evening will be two piece metal band Shergar, the world’s first concept band about Ireland’s most famous horse who was kidnapped from his stable in County Kildare in 1983 by a gang of machinegun-wielding men in balaclavas. After failed attempts to demand money for the stallion, gentle Shergar was brutally killed and his body was never found. People want answers, and the duo aim to get to the bottom of the mystery, through the medium of distorted bass, drums and indecipherable vocals. A must see for any fans of true crime out there!
