Desertscene are pleased to announce that we're hosting two of Canada's best. ANCIIENTS and Black Wizard, both forged in the fertile Vancouver metal scene, will be hitting up The Black Heart on Monday March 12th. They'll also be joined by The Grudge.
Formed in 2011 after the disbanding of Spead Eagle (an early band of guitarist Kenny Cook and bassist Aaron "Boon" Gustafson), Anciients sharply came to prominence with their progressive take on metal, bringing to mind a dose of early Baroness. Their 2013 debut LP, Heart of Oak and follow up, 2016's Voice of the Void showcase a band who keep momentum throughout regardless of how widely they cast their hooks.
Fellow Vancouverites, Black Wizard, play a style rooted in heavy metal, with stoner, doom and punk influences creeping into the mix. Releasing their self titled debut LP in 2010, it's immediately noticeable that, despite clear influences from the slower edges of sound, Black Wizard play fast. With two stellar follow ups, Young Wisdom and New Waste respectively, and their 4th LP, February's Livin' Oblivion, out just in time for the show, Black Wizard are sure to show why Vancouver has one of the most exciting metal scenes today.
Also on the bill are stoner metalers The Grudge, bring a heavy stomp to start out the night. Their latest EP, 2016s The Effect of Transylvania, showcases the wall of bouncy hooks London's own will be hitting The Black Heart with. So for a metal Monday, book your tickets today.
